Choosing the Right Software for Your Nonprofit Organization

Nonprofit organizations come in all sizes and many different missions. According to Statista.com, in 2023 there were approximately 2 million U.S. nonprofit organizations registered with the IRS. Although the mission of these nonprofits are diverse, they all have two things in common: they rely on volunteers and they rely on donations.

With very tight budgets and limited volunteers, it is important for nonprofits to find a software platform that can increase operational efficiency and most importantly manage (and grow) their donor base. There are a lot of nonprofit software solutions that are designed for a specific task such as organize and track operations, or coordinate fundraising events, and several that provide donor outreach and management.

The problem is, most nonprofits default to using multiple software platforms each with a specific purpose (such as donor management). Why is this a problem? These independent platforms typically don’t connect to each other, which causes more work when it comes time to reconcile tasks and stakeholder reports.

What’s the question all nonprofits should ask? Where can I find an “all-in-one” software solution that will handle all my donor management, volunteer activities, coordinate fundraising events, and help me compile stakeholder reports? Thankfully, there are several nonprofit platforms, like Growth Power Suite (GPS), that help streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and improve overall effectiveness in achieving your missions.

Below is a comparison summary of several “all-in-one” NonProfit Software Solutions.

Pricing

  • Growth Power Suite (GPS): Starts at $299/month and averages $499/month. We provide all our nonprofit customers with information on how to get a grant that pays for up to $5,000/year of the platform.

  • Giveeffect: $399+/month; Versions of the platform that allow for more contact records and workflow automations require a quote.

Email and Text Campaigns

Short Message Service (SMS) campaigning involves the process of sending and responding to messages without manual intervention. GPS’s software integrates this automation process to schedule, trigger, and manage the sending of text messages and emails based on predefined criteria, making your communications quick, easy, and seamless. SMS and email marketing campaigns are a highly effective way to reach large numbers of customers at once, getting word out about what you have to offer and reaching customers on their mobile devices.

All platforms mentioned above provide the ability to utilize email marketing campaigns. As for text message campaigns, DonorPerfect does not include the feature, and WildApricot requires their customers to manually register. GPS, Neon One, and Giveeffect all allow for marketing and communications over text.

Reporting Donation

Donation reports provide essential information that allows you to identify who your constituents are, retain donors, and identify trends among your participants. GPS, DonorPerfect, and Giveeffect all provide donation reports. On the other hand, Neon One’s donation tracking is limited, while WildApricot only allows for Excel exporting.

Expense Tracking & Financial Reporting

Tracking expenses and reporting on finances is crucial to the success and organization of your nonprofit. GPS creates easy to navigate pipelines that can track the expenses within your organization and subtract them from the revenue documented in that pipeline.

Giveeffect provides expense tracking, yet they use Quickbooks integration for their financial reporting. Neon Onementions on their website that they do not recommend using their platform for expense tracking; they also do not provide financial reporting. DonorPerfect provides financial reporting and uses Quickbooks integration for their expense tracking. Lastly, WildApricot does not provide expense tracking nor financial reporting.

Mobile Access for Users & Donors

The use of mobile access for users, donors and members makes communications and participation extremely easy for everyone involved in your organization. GPS’s Communications Panel Module is a multi-channel interface that allows you to connect with your constituents at any point in time. We, as GPS, also provide an iOS and Android application for your mobile device that makes it seamless to access your constituents anytime, anywhere.

Neon One, DonorPerfect, and Giveeffect all provide mobile access for their users, while WildApricot provides mobile access for their members only.

Wrapping Up

While Neon One, WIldApricot, DonorPerfect, and Giveeffect are all highly successful nonprofit solution platforms, GPS provides all of the most crucial features readily available for users without limitations or additional steps.
